This is without doubt the worst years in terms of natural disasters - tsunamis, earthquakes, hurricanes, floods are hitting all parts of the world. Singara Chennai was almost washed away from the face of the map with a considerable amount of rain over the past couple of days. El Nino? or Mother Nature cleaning up for all the things we've done to her over the years?
Time to plant a few more trees instead of a few more bombs!

My dad too was saying... water entered his car and he had to take it to the service center to get it dried out.
I wonder if chennai has any way of holding on to all the water that is pouring down on it? The deccan plateau is a rocky region and in the days of yore, tanks used to be where water collected. Most tanks are dysfunctional with lack of maintenace and disuse. Has the water harvesting effort borne fruit?
I don't think water harvesting was meant to deal with such huge quantities of water. The primary purpose was to regenerate ground water given the sparse rain we get in Chennai. Atleast there won't be a water problem for a while unless there is gross mismanagement on 'Queen' Jaya & company's part!
